Top Tips for Providing Constructive Feedback to Designers
Ask don’t tell: Instead of providing instructions ask prompting questions to help the designer understand the issue or to give yourself context.
Be objective not subjective: Subjective feedback can be hard to navigate. Instead provide objective feedback based on the function, demographic and brief.
Document feedback: Verbal feedback can lead to missed instructions. Share for Review is a great way to document all feedback.
Divergent then convergent: At first offer broad feedback and allow for exploration. As the project progresses begin to narrow down directions and feedback.
Encourage a wildcard option! Wild card options are a direction outside the norm of the brief. These are often hit or miss but sometimes they produce magic!
