The New York Women's Surf Film Festival, a project of Lava Girl Surf, celebrates the filmmakers and female wave riders who live to surf, highlighting their sense of adventure, connection to the ocean and love for their own communities and those they discover. The festival is held over 8 days in two cities and includes events including, a beach clean up, art show, markets, morning surf and film screening.
This years New York Women Surf Film Festival centered around women empowerment. Women are trail blazing new paths in surfing and striving to close the gap between prize money and recognition received by their male counterparts. To bring visual form to this years theme – graphic elements were created using spray paint. The expressiveness of spray paint reflects the movement, energy and power of surfers and the ocean. These organically created paths were integrated with photography to reflect the idea of trail blazing and adventure.
